It's a bit fussy, but, when doing the rub rails on Dadink, a dinghy, I used
construction grade spruce (think leftover Christmas tree equivalents).
Terribly full of knots and needing to be bent. I was quite satisfied with
the results of "graving" chunks to replace the places where I cut out the
knots. Epoxy is wonderful stuff for us wood butchers.

For a mast, I'd consider wrapping the repaired places with fiberglass. If
you took a strip cut from normal fabric and went up diagonally at a 45
degree angle, you'd have the equivalent of the expensive stuff.

For reference for anyone in Aus.
I faxed FB&F the other day for a price on Micro plans posted to Aus.
Got the reply today. $150 USD if anyone needs to know.

Also have been checking out timber prices/avalability etc in WA, and have
found clear oregan impossible to find (for spars), and *hugely* expensive.
Does anyone know of an alternative, something that could be laminated up to
do the job.
