Re: [bolger] Plywood

Jeff,

I also contacted Jim regarding this luan plywood. I am using 6mm pacific
maple marine 5-ply at aud$38-00 per 2440x1220 sheet from Marine Timbers in
Mulgrave, Melbourne but something even cheaper would be nice. It would
open up the possibility of some new projects!
The marine ply is Wayang brand, 5 ply, thin face plies, nice finish both
sides.

Jim,
are you talking about exterior grade C-D (A-bond)
F14 AS2269 with one "good" face.
I was quoted $30 Aus for 7mm 3-ply and
$45 for 12mm 5-ply ...this is Australian made
Hoop Pine , so it looks like you are doing better.
(the stuff I looked at had knots in the finished face,
but none were of the about-to-fall-out variety)

I'm a bit nervous about exterior ply delaminating ..
the alternative, marine ply is twice the price.
However by the time you epoxy-soak the exterior ply
the price must be getting close to Marine anyway.

Is Luan exterior or marine, and has anyone had
trouble with exterior Grade ply, esp vis-a-vis the dreaded
delamination blues???
Thanks
Jeff Gilbert.
ps Plyflex bending ply is $75 for 5mm .
pps all above 8x4 sheets.
ppps $30 Aus =approx $19US
