Re: [bolger] Re: Tiny Cat -Catboat Assn Bulletin
I don't know if it is readily available. It goes out to members of the Cat
Boat Association. They do have a web site, but I don't think the Bulletin
is on it. The site is www.catboats.org. Peter A.

Where does one find this bulletin?
Bob Chamberland
This thread had some discussion as to whether the Tiny Cat a/k/a Bobcat could hold three large adults. Nels wrote "Another option is Cartopper which might have more cockpit space." I have built and sailed both. Admittedly Bobcat is more difficult to build but is far more satisfactory as a comfortable and stable sailing boat. I have had three adults in her total weight about 470. I have cruised her with two. See my hopefully upcoming article in the Catboat Association Bulletin (Feb). I would never carry more than myself in the Cartopper for sailing purposes. Rowing or motoring is another matter. Peter Anderson

Even if you decide to build the Catfish, this book will be useful I
would expect. The thing to realize is that you have a fairly big
centerboard and a fairly long low boom for two people to work around.
So will get back to you before the week is out. I know I have it but,
I have company coming on Tuesday morning.
Another option is Cartopper that actually might have more cockpit
space! It has room to sleep in. Weighs 100 lb instead of 250. Has
easy turns in the bow sections and a very friendly boom location. I
actually saw the one on the car that is in the photo, and decided on
it instead of Tiny Cat:-)

Nels:
If you locate it and are willing to give it up, mail to:
David Godsey
P.O. Box 128
Nehalem, OR 97131
Put a return address on it so I can send you a check for the book and
postage. I'll search it on arrival to identify her PR (porker
rating, ie: weight capacity) DG

I believe it is about 6" and 30" with board down all the way.
Bobcat is short and wide - therefor the bending of the ply in the
bow area approaches torturing to get it closed up. The longer cats
are actually more gradual. It will carry a lot of weight but the
centerboard case is a bit of an obstruction I would find.

Have been very impressed by the Tiny Cats but have a couple of
questions for you Payson/Bolger experts:
1. What does the Tiny draft centerboard up and down?
2. Can she carry 2 aging chubbettes (350 lbs total) or is it for a
single porker?
