Re: Oink Re-Launched

Thanks Nels.
Looks like the weekend after this, because the tides are all wrong
this weekend. I don't want to be sorting out all this rigging jumble
at high tide at 6am or 6pm. I'm relatively new to this mud berth
mooring business, and have noticed that anything that touches the mud
means mud everywhere else, and from my previous experience rigging
this rig, there will be plenty of ropes and gear dragging everywhere
when sorting it. While located in a very nice sheltered place after a
bit of shifting around, I have a feeling that I will move back to my
deep water mooring, and just use this one as a bolt hole when a bad
blow is forecast.
Cheers,
DonB

Even less of a big deal:-)

Congratulations,

Now to see her sailing at full tilt boogie - so to speak!

Nels
Take heart Jason, Navigators seem to be survivors!
Oink really moved backwards in the 30knot wind, so the high house
certainly does have an effect. It will be interesting to see whether
she will go to windward under sail in a strong breeze. I have not
heard from anyone who has experienced this so far.

My event was *not* a big deal.

I just have a small smudge of green paint
on the front bumper of my SUV, acquired
while pushing the boat into the water.
Jason:

Everybody gets sideways on occasion. I recall when the Big E was
grounded in San Francisco Bay. We just had an incident, too. Refer
to this weeks edition of our local fish wrapper at:

When you can top this, then start to feel badly.

Now i'm getting worried, it's rather ominus. Two for two navigator
launch day groundings.....i'll be ready for the worst. Maybe i will
pour that foam into the 4 floatation chambers after all :)

PS oink looks great. The finish is fantastic, both the decks and the
gloss on the hull sides.

Really cool, nice looking boat!
Oink was relaunched yesterday, in heavy showers of rain and squalls,
and motored to her mooring. I decided not to launch with the
complication of the spiderweb Navigator rig, and thank goodness I
didn't, it would have been a nightmare.
Successful was the rounded bow, which eliminated the shaking and
slapping which an upright trip into a short chop, and gurglinga and
gucking on the mooring. And she seemed to float at a nice attitude. I
had put 400lb of epoxied steel punchings into the floor, to help the
bigger rig and longer length.
Strikes me this boat would make a very satisfactory small motor
cruiser, which may be the way to go if I get tired of the rig? After
all, most onlookers think it's a classic motor cruiser.
The day ended in near disaster, due to my inadequate mooring
preparations. I have some photos on my website below. The next weekend
or two will be taken with rigging for some sail work.
