More on polypropylene fabrics.

I have samples of Polyfelt TS 800, Polyfelt TS 750,
Polyfelt TS 700, Ecofelt 021T, PGM14 and a stiff white
translucent fabric. The Polyfelt TS800 is about 2.4mm
thick, the TS 750 is about 2.1mm, the TS 700 is also
about 2.1mm thick. The PGM is about 1.0mm thick.
The Ecofelt is about 0.6mm and the stiff white material,
for which I do not have a name, is 0.4mm thick. Polyfelt
is a German or Austrian product and can be found by
searching "Polyfelt". I think that the stiff white material
came from the same source in Auckland but I cannot be sure
of that. I am getting additional samples of woven and
non-woven material from Permathene Ltd. in Auckland.
Again an Internet search will find "Permathene Ltd."
All these materials are sold in large rolls. None of these
materials distort significantly when pulled in shear. This
means that they will lie nice and flat on a plywood surface
but may crease if bent around a chine. Permathene tell me
that their material will distort more in shear. Woven
fabrics may distort even more in shear. I suspect that one
layer of Polyfelt TS 800 well soaked with epoxy might be
quite sufficient for the skin of a small boat. Certainly
it would make robust protection for a sheet of plywood.
There are many makes and suppliers of these geotextiles or
geotechnical fabrics as they are widely used in civil
engineering.
