Re: Oink Sailing Pictures at Last
Hi Bruce,
I will write some notes very soon, but we have a busy schedule this
weekend.
Helm balance was very normal, light weather helm, heeled or no. But I
don't think she will self steer.
The tapered mast caused no problems. However I suspect I have
over-lightened it, and it won't be a shock if it goes west in a good
blow. Desperately needs a lower strop on the gaff to crank it in more.
Mast should have been a foot or more higher.
The fibreglass battens seemed fine. Other adjustments need to be made,
see above.
All in all, she did everything better than I expected, including short
tacks up a narrow inlet in a fading shifty breeze....I never expected
this capabilty,

Did the tapered mast work ok? What is your feeling
about the stiffness of the battens?
A very intriguing craft. Beautiful job. Best of luck.
Well done Don.
She looks a hoot, May you have tons of fun in her.

I took Oink for her first sail as a Navigator today, in 5-12knot winds
and flat water.
My dear wife did a good job on the photo taking, thanks Helen.
I will do a proper report and add captions to the photos in the next
couple of days, but apart from minor gear tweaks to be done, she
sailed really well.
DonB
Ah, mighty fine.

Dear Don,
Congratulations to the photographer! Some smashing shots there.
She looks wonderful heeling under that rig. Remind us - Did you sail her as a conventional Micro before changing to Navigator? If so - how about comparing and contrasting performance for us?

---Don,
Thanks for the great photos. You must really be pleased with the end
results. She looks well balanced and the all round view from inside
with the boat heeled is awesome,
Cheers,
