Bolger says that the weight of the powerhead of the motor, up high, is
compensated by the crew sitting directly on the bottom of the boat.
He recommends an 8hp motor - or at least says it will push this craft
at 15 knots without porpoising and standing on end like a narrow
sterned canoe might.
Sorry I can't post a scan - I'm having USB difficulties today

Hi Bruce
The 'Motor Canoe' is 15'9" by 36". Bolger says 'Motor two to eight
horsepower but not more than sixty pounds'.
cheers

I'd guess 30-36" wide. Two feet is pretty narrow by canoe standards. Don't
try standing up! As for motors for your design I'd think two horse or less.
Problem with narrow boats and outboards isn't so much going straight, it's
if you have the misfortune of turning too hard under power. The motor can
flip you over before you have time to utter "Aw sh-!"

In BWAOM Phil has what I call a freighter canoe. One designed to take
an outboard at the stern.
What are the dimensions of PB's design, and what motor size does he
suggest?
I'm in Florida, without my copy, slappin' (no jokes from le penut
galleri de Mon'real) my infinite modular canoe together. It's going
together nicely and I hope to launch her at 16 feet long, 2 foot
beam, 12 inch sides this week.
Le Baron de Largo, itchin' to get on the water in old Montreal soon
so as to quaff all of Peter Lenihna's stock of fine, aged or le
cheapo Oporto again.
