Why didn't you say that sooner. LOL! I played that game too. I had
all kinds of stuff sent to a Feed & Seed store in Calais, Maine and
the builder would pick it up and drive home. Piece of cake. He also
had a customs broker who handled the tricky bits. Didn't hurt a bit.

By all means, drive a little. Save a lot.

Susan, Had I known you were there, I'd have definitely stopped by and had a
"pint", even though I'm 600 miles away.

Just a suggestion. Having seen these people at St. Michaels, Md., thought
they might be a source. Familiar with customs, hope you can sneak across
border with product.

I was over at Noahs (in Toronto) this week to look over their marine
grade plywood (good stuff), and they had no idea what I was talking
about when I mentioned xynole polyester fabric, and didn't seem
interested when I mentioned how popular it was. Maybe that's why they
call themselves Noahs

But, I got a good suggestion from someone else. Since I live across
the river from Niagara Falls, NY, I'll simply have it delivered to the
UPS (or Fedex) office there and go pick it up.

To answer that brutal comment from Wayne; the reason I was looking
for a Canadian supplier is that delivering to Niagara Falls, Ontario
from the USA is a twisted Canadian Customs affair. The product
becomes tied up in red tape and tons of money to unravel that tape.

Robert
Don't really know, but have you tried Noah's? Don't have catalogue in hand,
but might be a source. I do know that Defender has it tied up in U.S.

The URL above takes you to the Waterford location and they do indeed
list xynole. For some reason I always thought they were in Rhode
Island.

I am not quite clear on the details, but be aware. For years, Defender
was in New Rochelle. When they decamped to Waterford, the store in New
Rochelle, NY remained open under a different, but similar, name. I
believe that the Waterford operation is the one you want for Xynole. I
have their catalog on my coffee table, at present.

The Waterford store is annoying to drive to, even if you are dashing
through Waterford on I-95 since it is well away from the highway.

I don't get it. New Rochelle to Niagra Falls? Well, here's some more
bad news-Defender is in Waterford, CT. That's a skip and a spit. I
had heavy stuff shipped thousands of miles to the builder and it
never hurt a bit to get exactly what I wanted. Folks ship xynole to
Thailand because it is the only fabric of it's kind that performs as
well as it does. Dynel is close but no cigar when the chips are down.
Yes, Defender is the only source. I knew that prior to construction.
I also made the mistake of not using it. Bummer! The only regret I
have as far as what went into the boat.

Be brave. Bite the bullet. Buy the xynole from Defender and be glad
you did. Buy a lot of epoxy too. Xynole needs a lot of epoxy.

More on xynole:

I apologize if I sound rude. Getting the right stuff to where the
boat is being built is frustrating at times. I've been there. I know.
You have to be prepared to have stuff shipped in. It would be nice if
the Big Orange Box store was named Boat Depot and they stocked real
marine plywood, black locust, white cedar, Kirby's paint, C.P.E.S.,
xynole, etc. etc. It isn't and shipping is a fact of life with boat
building materials. Heck, my plywood was made from logs shipped from
Africa to Greece. The plywood was shipped from Greece to the East
Coast where it was transfered to Maine and my builder drove down from
New Brunswick to get it. A pain in the Kazoo, but worth every penny.

Look on the brightside: You have A&M Wood and Noah's and you aren't
paying a rediculous tariff on red and yellow cedar and doug-fir. I
think you have the better deal.

Cheers!

Wayne
In the Swamp.
Robert --

Have you tried calling Noah's and asking them if they'll order some
for you? They really ought to stock it. They claim they carry "hard to
find fiberglass" -- well . . . !

www.noahsmarine.com

Also, try Googling "Dynel," which is a similar polyester fabric. Might
turn up a few other options.

All best,
Garth

I think it's in the Jamestown Dist catalog, but that won't help with
shipping. Clyde

I did a search a couple of years ago, Defender was the only one I
found. I think Reuel Parker said they were the only source.

If you find someone, be sure to post it! Maybe you could find some
others to split the cost of an order with you?

Hi, Everyone,
would anyone know of a Canadian supplier for Xynole
Polyester Fabric? I've googled the name and there isn't much out
there .

The closest supplier I've found is

http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|10918|16458|309346&id=16176

and they're in New Rochelle, NY. I would be happy to order from them
but the international shipping really eats up the dollars. Hence,
looking for the Canadian Supplier.

Robert, Boatless in Niagara Falls
