Why, my next boat of course - why else would I keep building more
boats.

Toto wins in my life. Countless hours of paddling local streams, way
out in the brushy, windy, little rapids where no one else goes. And
many many hours of paddling the local pond with my daughters along.

Now, I hope that Cormorant ascends to top "Fun" spot immediately upon
launch this summer . . .

That would be the Sunfish.

Most fun overall? My Laser when I was a teenager. Most fun per
dollar? The Mouse, hands down.

As far as I know.

I think I can guess what the rest of the design is from what's in the
I60 plans: four or six stretched Brick halves, six rectangles for the
bow, transom, and bottom, a straddle seat along the edge with the
hinges, and a rub rail and oarlocks on the outside edges. And a
latching mechanism of some sort, probably on the bow and transom.
Perhaps flotation tanks under the straddle seat? We'll see whenever
the next draft arrives....

Is this a new Bolger design?

Gee Willa.....that's a tough one to answer since, for each boat I've
launched,IT has been the boatus with the mostus funus at THAT time.
Similarly, with a thousand and one use scenarios, already stuck in the
many corners of my wondering mind, for Windermere, I fear she will be
the next boat to have the most funus with.Oh the rapin' an' pillagin'
we will do together! :-)
Perhaps the question needs to be tweeked a wee bit with perhaps a"boat
that you have used the most" or "gotten the most use from" type of
structure?

Sincerely,

Peter Lenihan, presently in the throes of never ending rapture(daily)
with the building of Windermere....... but that doesnt count now, does
it..........
The Gypsy I built to plan in 1988 from the New Instant Boats book. Built of
luan, polyester resin, and glass, she cost $185, rigged with a windsurfer
sail she provided hours of fun in the building and 3 years of fun sailing
until her demise under a truck. I gave her to my wife on our 1st anniversary
in August that year, and she was named "Marilyn, I Do". "Red Herring" may
have been a more appropriate name. My wife is still none to crazy about
sailing.

The fun-est one? That would be the canoe, I guess. We've had one
since before we were married, 31 years ago, although not always the
same one. We've had the current model, a cedar strip, since the
early 80s.

The two boats that I have used the most were a plywood kayak and a Boston Whaler Squall.

The kayak (a Kayel Ottersport "Slalom" back when slalom boats were high volume) lived on top of my car, with a paddle, spray skirt, pfd, and a hat in the back. It weighed around 45 lbs and I could have it off the car and in the water in a very short time.Kayaks can go anywhere from a tiny creek to the ocean, and a boat that can be put in use instantly gets a lot of use.

The Squall was extaordinarily versatile. I learned to sail in her, learned to row in her, fished and hunted ducks in her, used her to fertilize fish ponds and build docks and on one memorable occassion....Well, we were a lot younger then.

I suspect that the boats which are used the most are those which can be used on a whim and which can be used for a lot of different things. What are your experiences?

Bill,

Any boat, eh? Well, #1 would have to be the homebuilt 8' plywood pram
w/3hp Evinrude Lightwin that I got for my 10th birthday. Spent endless
hours in that boat. Caught a few fish. Still have the Evinrude - might
get it running & put it on the current boat (for old times sake only,
we've got a 5hp 4stroke for everyday use). #2 would be the 16'
Glastron ski boat my brother bought a few years later. Learning to
water ski barefoot & cut cookies for the girls was a gas for a
teenager. #3 would be the series of cobbled-together rafts we put
together when I was between 8 & 10. Floated Youngs Bay, and once took
an unplanned voyage out to the Columbia River bar. Scary, had to
abandon ship & swim for Clatsop Spit. I have every hope that the new
#1 will be the 15.5' Micheal Storer designed "Goat Island Skiff" I'm
building with my two boys. It's getting close to paint & splash, and
I'm getting close to delirious with excitement.

Shalom,

My solo double paddle canoe is my favorite for a small local pond. I
can paddle through the toolies to where it opens up to a quiet pool
that looks timeless: birds, ducks, frogs, ferns, oaks and redwoods. I
go there to be at peace.

Most fun was my AF4 power sharpie that I sold in a fit of insanity. While I
like the plush 27'er that I've got now, it's just not the same.

Bill -

without a doubt it is Pointy Skiff. This boat has probably logged
the most miles and served as a utility boat for at least 15 years
now. I patch it and patch it to the point that I think the only
original part is the bottom.
