That 'Topaz snout panel' amounts to a long trapazoid with a 90 degree
twist to it. Think 'map of Tennessee'.
I forgot the alternate, if it doesn't work, it will make a great
roof for a storage shed. Clyde

I've been playing with the idea of a superbrick hull, 24'X10' with a
flat section, a la barge, of 16' in the middle, and freeboard up to 3'.
Instead of the box keel I've been playing with a Topaz snout(as I call
it, not PCB approved) but I'm having trouble getting the conical
projection for the plywood in my model, let alone the real thing. I had
incorporated some keel aft of the snout to make it steer a little
better. Now I think I'll change the shape of the forward half of the
hull and just use snout from the Topaz. I started out wanting to haul
some stone for my revetment but now I'm thinking "huge brick' with a
dipping lug sail(from Seabird 86, just in case I get to build one of
these later) and a 9.9 high thrust , and room for deck furniture. Maybe
later a 9'X12' cabin. Clyde

...shows how this falls on the cabin, lost of course is
some of the underberth storage and the full standing
headroom in the toilet. Gained is trailerablity, and
hydrodynamics and improved windage, I think.

I keep coming back to look at Bolger's Superbrick,
[see writeup in his book, _Boats With an Open
Mind].

I always hang up on his self criticism of the boat,
that the bottomis too wide to ride effeciently between
the wheels of a trailer, and that if the hard corner of
the front transom ever were to hit solid water, the
hull would dig in and come to a stop.

Taking Bolger's own idea from his 'economy
motor sailer' "EMS" of a box keel, and applying it to
the Superbrick hull, appears to me to solve
these two problems.

http://hallman.org/bolger/Superbrick/AlternateSuperbrickHull.gif

shows an isometric of the EMS:Superbrick hybrid.

Shown, of course, is only the bottom half of the hull,
and the 3,000 displacment line is just at the transition
point between the box keel and the 'brick'.

Note that the deep zone of the box keel matches quite
nicely with the 'standing' room area of the original cabin
shape of the Superbrick. The total overall hight of the
Superbrick would remain unchanged, but the trailerability
and the hydrodynamics would be dramatically improved,
at least I think.
