New Kingston Rowing club formed
In order to encourage rowing, and the subsequent need for more
Bolger (and others) rowboats to be built I've started a new fun
rowing club.
I'm posting this here, as it may jog the odd failing neuron or two
about the group, who might then have a similar thought. Such as "Why
don't I start a rowing club in Montreal, San Fransisco, Podunk..."
This club is in no way part of the existing, competitive Kingston
Rowing Club, I am forming the 1000 Island Fun Rowers for fun,
friendship and floating fitness.
Membership is free, and you don't have to live in or about Kingston,
as we will have occasional scheduled row-abouts, tours or
camp/picnic cruises that anyone with a cartoppable or traillerable
row boat, canoe or kayak could participate with.
Why exclude anyone, any human (or animal) powered vessel is always
welcome.
The boatbuilding angle, is that by promoting fun rowing, the need
for more purpose built rowboats will follow, and I can have a ball
helping newbies to build their first boats.
Founding meeting will be at the Portsmouth Tavern,(where else?)
Sunday 10 April, 2005 at 2 pm. The small boat launch for the
Portsmouth Olympic Harbour is literally across the street so I'll
have the Michalak Sport Dory and Welsford Seagull there for anyone
to try. I might just be crazy enough to have 30 feet of TIMS
assembled there as a super stable 8 person rowboat! But I kinda'
doubt it.
Hope a few of you can make this mini-messabout with or without your
boats.
I've put up a new Yahoo group at:
http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/1000IslandFunRowers/
for the club.
Bruce Hector
High mileage rowing, just two pints per mile!
"Put y'er backs into it men, you too Lenihan, and pass the demon
rum!"
