Re: [bolger] The Frank Davidson Memorial Row for Cancer Research X-Post
Sounds like good fun for a good cause. Wish I could be there to participate.
Which route are you taking?
At least the wind is usually blowing TOWARDS Gan, eh?

Subject: [bolger] The Frank Davidson Memorial Row for Cancer Research X-Post
|
|
| Please excuse the cross post, but I believe in this case its
| justified.
|
| The new Kingston 1000 Island Fun Rowers were already commited to a
| Canadian Cancer Society fundraising 20 mile row to Gananoque on 24
| April 2005, when a fellow boat nut and Portsmouth tavern regular,
| Frank Davidson, suddenly died of cancer.
|
| We have renamed our row, as above in the subject line, in his honour.
|
| Frank loved small craft, especially canoes and kayaks. But was always
| interested in what new floatable I was up to. He was an active
| official here at last years Kingston Dragon Boat race day also. If he
| were still about, I know he'd be a row club member, always ready for
| a row out of and back to the Ports, for a draught.
|
| Unfortunately, Frank had poor taste, and drank Molson Canadian
| draught. But I cannot, in good taste and respect for the deceased,
| hold this against him.
|
| So the memorial row will go ahead.
|
| Anyone with a rowboat, canoe, kayak, etc, (any human powered craft)
| that wishes to accompany us, is urged to approach their local branch
| of the Canadian Cancer Society (or it's American or other
| international twin) and pick up a few donor forms, and join us.
|
| We'll have turkey and beef sandwiches, beer, pop(yuk) and water with
| us on the chase boat. I plan to have a good time, finishing with a few
| pizzas and some well earned camaderie. 6,7 or 8 hours, who cares, its
| all downstream and the prevailing winds tend to a tail wind. If
| condition are bad, we'll postpone, but not cancel!
|
| Let me know if you're interested in coming along, ah heck, OK! Even
| sailboats, powerboats and shanties are welcome in the parade, er
| flotilla!
|
| The purpose is to raise a few more bucks for cancer research and have
| the maximum possible fun while doing so.
