Sure she will....a bit small perhaps in size but nevertheless usefull
for running with the wind while the cooler is still full of ice-n-
mead.In fact,if we pull off a night-time raid up in Ottawa town and
yank off a Canadian flag flying on any of the larger public
buildings,I think you'll have yerself a fine sail right there. And
nooo,t'ain't stealin' 'cause we's already paid fer it with you and
me's taxes..right Mouton Noir?

welcome thirsty pirates, whores and thieves at his dusty bowshed "shop-

"Weldwood" offered (offers) a number of different glues. I have never heard of using contact cement for scarfing. Weldwood also makes a makes a glue which comes in a powdred form and is mixed with water to a cream consistancy. This glues to a light tan color and, if the fit is good, the joint disappears. I've used it for gluing up spars and found it satisfactory. These days, I generally have some epoxy around, so I use it.

Hi Y'all, don't really know how to post messages but in 1958
Science&Mechanics boat builders handbook found Crescent 15 1/2' centerboard
sailboat by C.T. Allen specifying Weldwood contact cement for laminating
scarf's & ply's of mast. Any Comments?

Hi Bruce,

I bet this one comes with a sailplan - otherwise Paul Fisher would never have bothered with the keel and rudder. For authenticity I guess a spritsail with horizontal top would be about right.

I think it's great that he went for the actual length of a typical faering/fourern, rather than let the plywood dictate that it be just under 16 feet.

Apart from size, I wonder how it'll compare with Bolger's Sweet Pea?

Although the Selway Fisher add doesn't show any lines, most faerings have a lot of flare and relatively narrow waterline beams. They move very easily and have immense reserve stability, but comparatively little initial stability. Bolger suggests that adding a sail to what is primarily a rowing boat is likely to degrade the rowing boat while producing a poor sailor. If the object of the exercise is to immulate Vikings, keep the sail small and make sure to make it out of red and white material. And don't forget the figurehead! Email Paul Fisher and ask about a sail. He's been very good about
answering questions. Clyde
