Yonder was designed for Rollin dal Piaz, a member of this group.
There was an extensive PB&F write-up, spanning three issues
of MAIB about two years ago. Search back through the group
archive for the extensive discussions at that time.
I keep dreaming of building [many] Bolger boats, and Yonder
is in my opinion one of Bolgers best designs. I would love
to build one.
I get humbled, though, while thinking about Yonder at the
physical size of the task.
She is a mix of laminated plywood parts, mostly thick
built up plwood elements for the box keel (2") and the fore and
aft crash bulkheads/tabernacles (3"). Plus, 1 inch interior
plywood frames, and a plywood/wood beam 3 inch thick/
insulated topdeck, and plywood skirt/rail surrounding the boat.
The curved sides are built of 1" cedar strips plus 3 inches of
hull insullation.
A 2" steel shoe on the box keel provides 4,800 of ballast.
[plus 1,500 lbs of batteries] for the hard ballast in addition
to another 800 pounds of temporary water ballast, for nasty
weather conditions.
Twin 25hp Mercury 'bigfoot' outboards.
The design also includes very detailed consideration for
construction sequencing, liveability, power, ventilation, tankage,
safety issues, etc..
Yonder is perhaps the most fully detailed, and ingenious, Bolger
design of all time, the 'building key' is a 49 page booklet!

What power? Ply lapstrake? If you took the time to build a model, does
that mean you're fantasizing/planning/definitely gonna build one?

Dennis,
I tried it on the mizzen of my Red Zinger and it worked okay. The mast
still needs to be free of obstacles like radio antenna wires, cleats
and such.
