Re: [bolger] Luan and Luan?

I have ordered and received four sheets of 6 mm Luan named "Aquatek " from
Allied Veneer in Los Angeles. Their write up for marine ply includes a Joubert
Okoume at $64.13 for a 6 mm 4 X 8 sheet. The Aquatek at $26.05 a sheet and a
third Hydrotek at $35.00 a sheet.

According to their information the Okoume meets the standards for Lloyds of
London certs, but the other two don't. The least expensive, which I ordered
seems to be multi ply, not just a Luan cover over one filler piece like
underlayment luan from a home center. I guess the 6mm is 5 plys and so far after
cutting all frames and long pieces I have yet to find a void at any edge.

Anyway I will see how the rest of the construction goes and report. But,
just in case I will wear my life vest when sailing. The only times I have been
dunked has been my stupidity, not the boat (Well when I took out my Swifty with
the grandkids one time I was used to a Bolger swing up rudder and CB so when
I felt the dagger board scrape I jumped over the side into about waist deep
water thinking it was the bottom scraping on the ramp. The other times have
been disimbarking on the lee side when docking on a beach. Or one time jibing
and found I was sitting on the main sheet so it wouldn't fly>
