Re: [bolger] Re: All trailered and Jestered out? What about racing?
Bolger did design a racing sailboat of about 15' sometime in the ' 50's for the rudder magazine. It had to comply with a set of rules for a certain class(I can't remember what!) I think it was called the "Rudder Rule Racer". It was cat rigged with a very tall bermudian sail and if I remember correctly the boom was rather high.....no ducking your head when tacking.
Next time I'm down in Port Sorell I'll have a ferret through my Grandfathers old Rudder Magazines that my father has and scan the design and post it in one of the files sections.
Hugo Tyson. Launceston, Tasmania, Australia.
PS. Our Bolger designed "Bunny R" is coming along nicely and with a bit of luck we(I mean Dad) should start planking her in about a month or so.
The nasty process of drilling the long holes through the backbone(Keel, Deadwood, stem etc) went very well and everything lines up perfectly.
My father has probably by now finished the stem rabbet, so everything can be epoxied and bolted together within the next week or so.
The latest photos are in the files section of Bolger5 in the Folder Tyson's Bunny R Lobsterboat project(Or a title similar, I can't remember exactly what I called it now!)

centreboard sloop, 15'6" x 4', plus an extra 1' or so on each side for
the hiking seats that project out past the sides.
PCB says it's an attempt to cross the virtues of a sailboard with those
of a conventional dinghy. Hull shape: it's really a scow, as is a
Fireball; but think of Micro, with no fin keel, no ballast, less rocker
and cut down so the hull sides are only a few inches high, with a
completely flat deck. It would be very easy to build, stitch and glue
or ply over stringers. The idea would be to get a cheap 2nd-hand rig
off something like a Fireball. Apparently several have been built -- a
long time ago, I guess.

it is elegantly simple and lood pretty fast, and yes it is
Bolgers 'simplification' of a Lightning.

Bolger tends to avoid racing boats, though
I would like to try Sparkler.
Is that the one that looks like a Lightning in profile?

Hi all,
Stunning silence this past 24 hours or so. Have we all got Micro Trailer fatigue, and made up our minds about circumnavigating the wrong way in a Shoebox punt?
Anyway - here's a question for you. Has PCB ever designed a racing dinghy that could put up a respectable performance among Lasers, Fireballs, Contenders and the like?
