Kingston NY messabout
Weather update:
Forcast now is for Sat & Sun 30% chance of showers. Temps in the mid
70's. Wind NE @ 7.
I guess that's a 70% that we'll be OK.
The NE wind makes me nervous. If it strengthens, it'll be a
"nor'easter" which won't be good.
I think we're still a "go," but we might get damp.
In case of rain, the AS-29 seats 6 in the salon...

For those interested in attending the Kingston NY Messabout this weekend:
Rondout Yacht Basin
Connelly NY 12417
(845) 331-7061
Ramp fee is $10
OK to use ramp for hand launch of small boats, no fee. (Fee applies to
trailers only.)
If you plan on staying overnight, slips are $2.00/ft
If you plan on tying up for the day only, slips are $1.00/ft
Fuel is available at the marina. (Sold by the half-gallon...ugh.)
I will be there starting around 6:00 pm Friday, so if any of you plan
on coming Friday night I'll be there.
My AS-29 is on B-dock. As you enter the marina parking lot, there are
two main dock sections - A,B,C, & D are to the left of the fuel dock
(looking from the parking lot) and E,F,G and the dingy dock are all to
the right.
The Marina is about a mile and a half up the Rondout Creek from the
Hudson River. This provides good protection from the "Rock and Roll"
that is common on the river. Speed limit on the creek is 5 kt. There
are some great restaurants about 1/2 mile by water from the marina for
those so inclined. There's also some very calm, free anchorage a bit
farther up the creek, but Saturday nights, the bar across the way gets
loud sometimes.
Let's hope that Ophelia doesn't pay us a visit!
See you all there.

Sept 16-17-18 are good for me. August won't work for

I've had a response from the City of Kingston regarding using the town
docks for a messabout. Here's an excerpt of their email:
"Suzanne Cahill, our City Planner, sent me your e-mail regarding your
proposed activity in the City of Kingston. We would love to work with
you on getting this event organized.
"The weekend of August 19, 20, 21 is not available as we are hosting
the annual Antique Boat Show and our docks are already committed to
that event.
"The weekend of September 2, 3, 4, 5 (Labor Day Weekend) is also
unavailable as we are celebrating our annual Irish Festival during
that weekend and our docks will be rented out to boaters as a weekend
package.
"August 13 and 14 - I know that you mentioned the last two weekends in
August or a weekend in September, but I should let you know that our
docks may not be available on this early August weekend. We are in
touch with a downstate boat club, trying to organize a visit with
them. If that doesn't work out, those dates may be available but I
hesitate to recommend those dates now."
This leaves August 26, 27 & 28 as a possibility. Also, September 16,
17 & 18 or Sept. 23, 24 & 25. If we go much later than that, it will
start getting quite chilly, especially in the evenings.
For those who are thinking of participating, which weekends work best
for you?
BTW - the antique boat show on the 19, 20 & 21st of August sounds like
fun. I've particiated in a couple of those and some of the boats are
really great. I get a lot of decorating and detail ideas from these
old boats. At one time I owned an antique 45' ketch. She won "Best
Sailboat" at one of these antique boat shows.
That gives me another idea. It's possible we could have our event the
same weekend as the antique show, but have our boats across the creek
at my marina. I think the marina staff would allow it (for a fee, of
course) and they have picnic facilities and space for tents. Folks
visiting the antique show could be encouraged to stop across the creek
and admire our work the same day. It might be a possibility.
Let me know what you think.
