Hi All:
Busy building the Cartopper and everytime I think I have found where either
Bolger or Payson have goofed I found I was wrong. But, think I have one now.
Where the fore and aft floor supports lie the notches in the bulkheads B and
C are 2-1/2 inches. Scaling the plans show the same 2-1/2 inches, but both
the article in WB and the typed info that come with the plans state floor
supports are 3-1/2 inches wide. I have bought a bunch of 1 X 4 stock for such
stuff and instead of ripping out 2-1/2 inch strips, think I will just enlarge the
notches on the bulkheads to take the 3-1/2 inch stuff I have on hand.
Stopped by the local home center (Lowes) on the way home from church today
and picked up a bit of 1 X 6 to rip off the 5 inch wide mast partner and
foresheet support and some 1 X 12 to hack out the rudder filler blocks. From the
price the wood must have come from trees that were watered only with imported
spring water from France.
Any advice on where to purchase the stainless steel or brass stock for the
CB fittings, need 1/16 inch stock for pendant fastening and wear plates around
the pivot? Also need material for those Bolger rudder hinges should also be 1
X 1/8 inch stainless?
Made up a "trial" mast section of 1/4 ply scabbed onto a 1-3/4 inch wide
chunk of 2 X 4 to make up the 1-3/4 inch square to check fit on the step and
will use that along with a level to assure the mast is vertical along the length
of the boat and has the proper rake on the side view (thinking of the "leg of
mutton" sail plan) as there are fewer strings for me to get tangled up in
(Got dumped on our lake one time when the main sheet was under my rear instead
of running free.)
