Lapstrake is not that difficult,
I built a 15' X 6' lapstrake and found a method that worked great. I used a
flock (about two boxes) of short s.s. flat head wood screws and simply smeared
the epoxy on each strake and screwed them together. The next day the epoxy
had set enough to hold everything together, but still "raw" enough to take out
the screws with a power driver. If you let it go two days all bets are off
as by then the goop has locked in the screws and you need to heat each one
with a soldering gun to get the little *^%# things out. If you leave the screws
in place each one acts as a "stress riser" and you lose some of the
flexibility of that type of construction.
Not really my idea, stolen from Fred Shell of Shell boats up in Vermont.
Look at his website and there are some nice "pre-cut" kits for his boats. Good
wood, good instructions and nice boats.
