I think this has been done before. When I was in France during WW2 there was
a Frenchman who followed our troops with a still on a wheel barrow. He used
an old car radiator as the condenser (Thank goodness it was a copper
radiator!).
This was down in the apple country and he would take the mush (or mash) from
the apple presses where they made cider and let it ferment then distill off
calvados. We would "buy" (a pack of cigarettes) a bottle and if it had cooled
from the still we considered it "aged".
It would have been a great trip if only those Germans would have stopped
shooting at us.
