Re: [bolger] Re: Plywood Diesel Cruiser

I disagree, if you can build the Cruiser than you can do an inboard
installation. I didn't know beans about installing motors until I bought
"Inboard Motor Installation" from Glen L Marine.

http://shop.glenl.com/browse.cfm/4,222.htm

I have done a couple and it is no harder than any other task in building.

Yes,
Merlin was built by my father, Bruce Tyson and launched late December 1998. He still has her and the whole family use her regularly(weekly)

She is NOTthe Plywood Diesel Cruiser, but the "Marina Cruiser" from BWAOM and the design is now called "Merlin". As far as I know she's the only one built. She's round bottom, strip-planked and epoxy saturated and has a Yanmar 2GM20 diesel. She displaces about 5000lbs

Yes. It is named Merlin. It does look better than the dwgs.

It's one of my favorites, but to my eye the superstructure looks
rather clumsy. Perhaps a raised deck would look better than the trunk
shown, with its awkward forehatch needed to provide sufficent headroom
over the toilet compartment.

While I'm redesigning it, why not replace the inboard with an outboard
on a pod? It wouldn't look very elegant, but it would make the boat a
lot easier for an amateur to build.

Anybody know if the above boat has ever been built? If photos are
available? Complete offsets are in BWAOM page 297.

For some reason I feel this boat would look a lot better in 3D than in
the drawings. 3/4 frontal view coming towards you at about 10 knots:-)
