Re: [bolger] Digest Number 2559

I am wondering if that would provide enough information for Bruce
Hallman to be able to develop the panel shapes and/or make a model?

I have taken one of Bolger's offset tables and punched the numbers into a
CAD program file and ran "Beezer" curves through the points. This gave me a
complete panel layout for the hull. On this one I just printed it out at 1/6th
size of the real boat and made up a nice swimming pool sail boat with an old
radio control from a toy. (Had to put a block of lead in the hull to bring it
down to the proper waterline, could not find a heavy enough miniature captain.
Re: the discussion of copyrights: I would think as Dynamite sends out his
study plans free and smaller copies of the plans are in his books that building
one boat for your own use would not violate any laws. (Study plans might
cause a bit of eyestrain though)
If you were going into the boat building business I would think the
"honorable" thing to do would be to pay something to the designer for each copy made
and sold. (Remember the way to make a small fortune making wooden boats is to
start with a large fortune.)
On my set of plans for the cartopper there is a note about using the offsets
if you wanted to build some kind of jig and turn out several copies of the
boat, so it seems that may be expected.
When I built my second Cartopper I bought a second set of plans, they are
inexpensive enough for gosh sakes. (Besides my first set faded badly from
sunlight when building outdoors along side my house.)
