Re: Camper

Nice boat. Always found it hard to understand what was going on with all the railings in the original drawings. Seeing it rendered per plans makes it clear and sensible.

Camper looks like a very nice boat.  Which Bolger design is this?  I would like to get more information on this boat.  Any links or blogs I can go to?  Thanks for your help.

Nels, I copied and sent the article from Mike O'Brien's "Boat Design
Quarterly" to somebody in this group, so maybe that person can post it
here for you. If not, send me your addressoff list and I'll find the
book again. Clyde

Nels i've got a little honda BF-2 that my dad and i have had strapped
on the back of everything from a doughdish to a brick. Good little
motor but loud for a 4 stroke, yet smooth. I think it has something to
do with the shaft immersion cooloing, no pump. The motor is 6 or 7
years old now and been in the shop once. Most people hate the swivel
reverse but since it weighs less than 30 lbs it's worth it....besides
it so damn simple. Hope it will push the navigator.......getting real
close. Rig and rudder is all that is left, need to paint a name on the
transom.

Yes - depending on the motor. I wonder how bad this one is?

You can hardly hear in the video clip <G>

Then there is this baby too:

I wonder if there would be space for the batteries? Certainly is for a
couple pv pannels.

Nels,

Did you also read the story about the Pathfidner owner who moved his
outboard frm the well to the transom due to objectionable noise and
vibration resonating in the hull? That is a drawback of ooutboard
wells I had not heard before. It does make sense.

Wayne
In the Swamp.
I came across this link showing an interesting rendition of a
motorwell that would likely work for a small boat like Camper.

When using it, one could just let it run, either loose or locked
straight ahead and steer with the big rudder.

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has access to the MAIB write-up on Camper
#640? Can't locate mine right now and feel it got lost when my old
machine crashed.

Cartoons are in Bolger3

Part of my continuing quest for a small canal cruiser. Unlike BWII,
Camper has a tablernacled mast and a really nice open sleeping area
for two abaft the centerboard case. The boom on the centerline makes
an excellent center-pole for a boom tent, perhaps using the oars as
a crutch at the stern. Or even have a permanent gallows?

I can also see where there might be room for 2 HP Honda similar to
BWII, perhaps connected with a pivot arm to the rudder which would
give remote steering from inside the deckhouse! Any comments on that?

A yuloh could also be utilized from off the stern. Sven Yrvind in
his book "KONSTRUKTOREN" devotes an entire chapter to yuloh
techniques he learned from Japanese fishermen, when he lived there
for awhile. Sounds like it can be utilized very effectively once one
understands the physics of the various techniques.

Unfortunately my Swedish is not good enough to fully grasp the
content of the write-up:-(
