Consider the Bolger Bantam, powered by a small outboard motor.
You could leave off the cabin and have a super nice, capable and
reasonable achievable lounging platform for ten.

One important factor to consider is the slap of chop on the underside of
the deck. Ideally, the deck will be higher above the water line than
the anticipated tallest chop, as much as such things can be predicted.
This is also why catamarans typically have a trampoline in place of
solid deck at the bow.

Can anyone please advise - I would like to build a simple (read cheap) plywood deckboat that would be suitable for about 10 adults to lay about on, in the bay. Preferably, if it wasn't too much of a leap, I'd consider building a simple flat top cat (that again would suport 10 or so adults when moored) and then I could do some island sailing. I'm guessing I'd just have to shape the hulls a little more for offshore progress, rather than the squarer type of hull usually associated with a basic deckboat. By going with the cat I could be totally reliant on sail too.
I am an absolute novice and have never even built a raft.
Any direction would be appreciated.
