PL Premium test

Thanks to everyone to answer my questions about PL Premium and its
various incarnations.

I've had a chance to do a couple tests of the brown liquid PL Premium
polyurethane I picked up last week at Home Depot.

First, I glued together a couple pieces of 3/4-inch spruce in an L-
shape. It was tightly clamped. When the glue had set, I inverted the
L and whacked at the end with a hammer, putting a lot of leverage on
the joint. It shattered after several hits, but it was the wood that
splintered. The glued joint held completely.

Impressed, I did the same test with 3/4-inch scraps of BC pine ply.
This time it was clamped with one of those spring hand clamps. It was
held firmly, but not as tigherly as with the other clamp. The result,
however, was the same. The ply split (two layers from the joint) and
the glue held perfectly.

I'm impressed and am looking to do some further testing. But I
already gone ahead and used it on a taberhacle I'm fitting to my
daysailing catboat, although the glued-on part is also held with six
bolts.

This is a lot better than the Gorilla Glue I used to have. My only
impression is the PL Premium "foams" up a lot less as it cures than
did the Gorille concoction. Maybe that has something to do with the
superior results.
