Re: Digest Number 2605
Chris,
Sorry, but these are two different boats (I have the plans for each).
"Waterman" is from a magazine article (Rudder I think) and is not
available in the Smithsonian catalog. "Redwing" is Karl Stambaugh
interpretation of Chapelle's "18 foot Camp Cruiser" and the original
plans are available from the Smithsonian.
Both good boats, but serve different purposes.

Redwing 18 is a development of Howard Chappelle's "Campskiff" not
"Waterman". Plans for "Campskiff" are available from the Smithsonian.
"Waterman" appeared in one of the "Popular......." periodicals. It is
quite a different boat. Specs call for conventional Chesapeake
construction or plywood. If anyone wants the article I have it on
file and can send it on. Part of the article is filed on the Yahoo
"Wooden Powerboats" site.

Hey Sam, Talk to Karl, There probably is. A box keel could go on
almost any sharpie hull. Clyde

There is also the 40'LR Redwing, which has a deadrise
bottom and a box keel but which retains the "Waterman"
sheer and house style. I wish there was a box keel
version at about 30 feet. These are pretty boats,
nicely proportioned.

Do You Yahoo!?

There are lots of redwings and I noticed that the pilothouse 21 shows an
alternate design for a deadrise bottom, which has really got me thinking
about the LC 24 and the RW 21. LC 24 being the 1GM10, 9 hp launch and
the Red Wing 21 with "V" bottom and capable of more horsepower ( thanks
for your imput, Don). Clyde

Karl Stambaugh, as the Redwing 18. You can find it at:

By following the links to "Small Boats Under 30'" and then the "Redwing

I have data convincingly disconfirming the Duhem-Quine hypothesis.
