Re: Italian frustrations...
Pippo,
We built in stints separated by extended interruptions -- 20 months from
beginning to end for a Junebug. Yesterday evening Andrea, my wife, went
sailing with me for the first time in a glorious warm wind. There is a time
for family, there is a time for building -- interruptions only postpone.

I don't feel quite so bad reading that everyone else is frustrated,
too. My hull is mostly complete, so all I need to do is make the
masts and the keel, then finish up. I put the keel batten on last
week, but the epoxy was setting up faster than I could get the screws
in to pull in into shape, so I ended up ripping the whole batten in
pieces.
It seems everytime I have time to work on the boat, it rains. I was
going to take a day off from work today to work on the boat, but it
was raining when I got up and the forecast was for scattered showers
all day, so I came to work (Yes, I get paid for posting this
message.) I'm sitting here at my computer looking at the SUNSHINE
outside. I'm not in a good mood!

I know how you feel, Pippo.
I've got the wood for my Micro, but since stacking it in the garage
no progress has been made. Instead, my wife has been keeping me busy
with a long list of improvments to my home. We recently discovered
some serious waterdamage to our front door. So last weekend, my
brother and me installed a whole new unit. I've also been adding some
fencing around my yard at the same time, another back-breaking job..
Let me tell you, digging fence post holes in our hard clay soil, even
with a power auger, is no fun at all.
I figure all this home improvement ought to earn me some time off for
good behavior for boat building later this summer. I'm hoping to
launch in October at the earliest. I do have a lot of unused vacation
time from work that will be put to boatbuilding in the near future.
Keep the faith, everyone!

Pippo,
Demands on my time as a professional musician have also left my
Micro in a two dimensional state. I have Spars, Sails, sides, bow
transom, bulkhead A, and panels for bulkhead B. I have run out of
ring
nails and have been too busy to order them, or drive to get some.
Unfortunately, I need to get back to work on the keel as the guy
who lent me the smelting unit wants it back by mid June. I hope to
make the keel mold this weekend and will probably stick to Bolger's
plans on this issue. I am hoping to get at least one more bulkhead
done
this weekend. And go 3 dimensional by June 1st. (wishful thinking).
Launch date is not anticipated until August 1st at the earliest.
In the meantime I have just sold my Cape Cod Frosty and my
Enterprise, both of which need a few hours of work prior to delivery.
That's life!

I know the feeling Pippo. My Windsprint needs two gunwale strakes to
complete the hull and hasn't been touched since January. All the remaining
Windsprint epoxy has been used up recoring the molded hatches on my Center
console boat. On top of this I've found a Diesel express cruiser needing
work that can be bought right, so that has the potential to suck up copious
amounts of time as well. Of, course many of the epoxy/fiberglass skills
required were taught by the Windsprint project.....
I felt guilty a month ago. I've now changed my attitude. Working on the
Windsprint is a form of therapy and if it takes two years (or more!) it'll
get done, and in an enjoyable fashion. It also may become a rowboat and
general marina barge for a period as well.
How do you store half finished boat projects? Does a blue tarp protect the
unfinished surfaces (with the boat upside down)? Does it need a frame to
support the tarp or can I lay the tarp right on the epoxied bottom? The
place it'll live for a while is shaded.

Hi all
the whole month of April has gone with zero Micro building activity...
Work overload, many business trips abroad (more than two weeks), wife
in her exam period for a confirmed full time teaching position, free
time fully devoted to the kids... Oh my. This afternoon I went
downstairs into the garage for winter/summer shoes swapping and saw
my
bulkhead B still there, clamped and waiting for the epoxy glue and
ring nails...
On the good side, we just bought a small beach apartment very close
to
a mooring... I can already see my Micro floating there...
Anybody else out there in a similar mood?
Best, Pippo
