FREE!ship Version 1.91 Released
Happy to announce again a new release.
(sorry for cross posting, but I assume that a number of Bolgeristas
like to play with such SW, but are not on the boatdesigners' list)
Download from:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=140466
Home page at:
http://www.freeship.org/
There is a whole list of many new features and a few bug fixes.
The most important new features in my view:
- Import of Carene files
- Improved import of Hulls (.hul) files
- Weight estimations (similar to Carene)
- Optical improvements in the output of developed panels
and lines plans.
- Markers that will allow to "pull" control points until
the resulting surface lies on top of a given drawing.
Those markers are needed to overcome a shortcoming of the "subdivision
surfaces": that the control points are usually outside of the hull
surface. The markers are in this release only used for imported .hul
files: to compare the imported shape with Hull's original shape. They
will be fully functional in release 2.0.
And since we always like to know what the good fairy will bring us ...
Release 2.0 will be a milestone. I expect (i.e. no guarantees!):
- fully functional markers (for input of existing line plans)
- additional hydrostatics (maybe drag estimations)
- a way to input additional loads at given locations
(ballast, engines, tanks, etc.) for calculation of cg etc.
- improved output of developed panels (flat bottoms and transoms
will be only one shape, not two half-shapes)
- a way to "plot" bulkheads
- a tutorial for beginners
BTW, if somebody likes to contribute to the development of FREE!ship:
In order to free up Martijn (the developer) from documentation work,
somebody could help with the manual, i.e. proof reading and updating
the hyperlinks inside the pdf document.
Pls. contact me, or Martijn directly.
Cheers,
and have fun!
Stefan
