Hi Sue --

I'm not sure about the time, other than "all day Saturday." Mike
Wagner might have more detail.

As for Where: I believe Mike is proposing the Rondout Yacht Basin, a
nice marina along the Rondout Creek, about a mile or less from its
confluence with the Hudson. Beautiful mix of old industrial junk and
19th-century buildings, next to thriving marshes and riverbanks. Plus
there's hundreds of other boats to look at. There used to be a Micro
living there. The marina has a launch ramp ($10 fee), and bathrooms,
and a playground for kids. There's also a dinghy dock where all the
smaller boats can be launched, without a fee, I hope. Mike was going
to check on that.

Here's a link to a good Hudson River launch ramp list:
http://www.boatingonthehudson.com/backIssues/apr05/launch.php

and here's its entry for the Rondout Yacht Basin:
---------------------------
Rondout Yacht Basin, south side of Rondout Creek,Connelly,41 º54'44"-
73 º59'19"Off of Rt.9W before second bridge you will see a
sign for Connelly.Follow the road down and around approximately 1
mile.Rondout Yacht Basin is right in front of you. This is the largest
yacht club on the Rondout and has a single wide launching ramp
on premises.Launch fee is $10.00.Overnight or longer stays are
available. Call 914-331-7061.
----------------------------

That (914) may be (845) now -- area code change a few years ago. I
know Kingston is 845, but Connelley is across the river -- maybe it
didn't change . . .

If you want to avoid the $10 launch fee, try this ramp nearby:

-----------------------------
Warren T.Spinnenweber Launching Ramp, Sleightsburg Spit Park, west
shore,at the very beginning of Rondout Creek.
This is a 3-year-old "state of the art"launching ramp,FREE,
built by the above named and with friends who wanted free,
public access to the River. It has become the premier
launching ramp for striper fisherman this year as it takes
far less time to get,"on the fish here"than from any other
location in the area.Directions, From Port Ewen,RT 9W,turn
left or right,at the light,(to- wards the River)on to North
Broadway.Follow North Broadway to First Av.,turn right,(there is a
little white sign on the pole saying Launch ramp)turn left to Everson
St.(another sign on pole)just before the fuel depot, and turn right
into the park.
-----------------------------

I've never launched there, but I've sailed by it on my way from the
Rondout Yacht Basin out to the Hudson and it looks excellent. I keep
meaning to go over and explore it, find out about overnight stays,
etc. -- but haven't had the time. Anyone know more about it?

Garth
(If all goes well here, we may launch Friday evening, anchor out in
the creek for the night, and wake up ready to messabout.)

There's also a chance that there might be a rather nice Watervan
there, too, if Stefan can make it. It's shaping up to be quite an
exciting crowd!

What time are we meeting, and where?

Sounds like there will be enuf folks there to really make it
worthwhile. I have a (musical) performance at 6PM in NJ so I have to
leave by 3ish but I'll try to be there early with "Das Brikett"
(8'pram) on the back of my pickup.
A cupla questions:
What costs are involved?
How early is anyone going to be there?

Here's a rough list so far:

-- Mike Wagner, AS-29 (the organizer)
-- Sue Davis, Single-Handed Schooner
-- Garth Battista, Michalak Cormorant, Elegant Punt, maybe some others
-- Wayne Ford, pirogue, maybe his lapstrake Norwegian Pram
-- Wayne's friend Don, who we must all convert to the boatbuilding faith
-- Philip Smith, Martha Jane (excellent news!)
-- Rich Santacoloma
-- Steve Fisher (a stripbuilt Wee Lassie, probably one or two others)

I'm probably leaving someone out, and Rich I'm sorry if I misspelled
your last name!

I hope we have good weather and a big turnout. I'm watching the days
get shorter and contemplating the long cold months of not being able
to go sailing. . . . WAaah!!!

Unless I have to work or go get the Honda Insight I
bought on e-bay, I plan to be there with my Martha
Jane.

I plan to Tom Sawyer the attendees by marking her up
with Magic Markers to show PB&F's recommended
modifications. Specificly the sponsons or 'flower
boxes' on the stern and the cut lines to put on the
raised house. If we can figure out the geometry, the
new lee board layouts.

I guess I should bring at least three colors of
markers.

My Martha Jane needs to be repainted, so I figure I'll
do the lay out at 12" to the foot.

Is anyone going to Kingston NY next weekend? If so, what are you bringing?
