In general, to reef a sprit sail, you do *not* attach it to the boom, for
a variety of reasons. It harms the shape, it puts stresses on the boom
itself, it's *ugly*.

When I sailed a Black Skimmer in Florida Bay (before they went defunct),
the owners were quite explicit about not attaching it to the boom. I put
in a double reef, and sailed that baby like a maniac in 20kts of wind.
Very fun, wish I could do it again.
