There has been at least three micros built with the mast stepped
for a lug sail:

This one has proven very successful with a junk rig

This file contains some of Aaron's original experience with his and
is very funny!

This shows a photo of Jason Stancil's Navigator which he planned to
use a Martha Jane mainsail.

Well, if you're running a balanced lug rig, the plans won't help you any -
they only show the standard sprit-boomed rig, with the mast stepped right up
in the bow.

Interesting to see a different approach! And thanks for posting pics - I
need to light a fire under myself and get my micro finished and in the
water, and after reading your first post and looking at the pics, I made a
list and prioritized it, gotta get busy now that the weather is favorable
for getting some boat work done.

Actually, to get a Balanced Lug Rig to *balance*,
the mast needs to be moved aft. [versus a sprit sail]
So, stepping the mast at the forward cabin bulkhead
would make sense.
Yes...Balanced Lug rig.

And I wish I could say that I'm the one that built it, but I did not.
A gentleman in Florida built it around '94. I bought it from Tim in
Houston, last year. The only explanation I can think of for why the
mast was moved back is to make it easier to step. You can set it up
half way by using the tabernacle and the bow as a lever, then move
under the mast to get a better bite and set it in place. I can
completly rig it for sailing in about 15 minutes.

Yesterday, we had a steady breeze of around 13 mph, with gust up to
25. Only once did a gust catch me off guard, but for the most part I
was able to heel her over to where water was about to come over the
gunwhales. Extremly fun for me, a terrible nightmare for the ol lady.
Needless to say the remainder of the afternoon was spent motoring
around...

Thank you for the kind words about the pics, glad y'all enjoy.

One of these days I'm gonna have to buy a set of plans for the micro,
as I am sure I don't have that main sail rigged correctly.

Yeah, I just noticed - the mast is stepped against the front of the cabin,
and not at the bow as per plans. What's the purpose of that modification?

Great boat, family and really great profesional looking photos.
Congratulations. Regards, Máximo.
For some reason I can't post any pics in my Bolger 5 file. The space
meter shows that it's full, even when I erase other pics, it doesn't
change.

So here's some links to some ( I think ) great pics, from recent

Everytime I take that lil' boat out I wish that I could shake Mr.
Bolgers hand.
