Using valve grinding compound on the screw drive keeps it
from slipping and tearing up the screw.
Any full service hardware store should still have a screw driver
bit for a brace. I will check tomorrow if I remember.

Those wonderful folks at Lee Valley carry a widget which has the four-sided
bit-brace end, and a quarter inch socket for those power bits on the other
end. It looks like it will support the six sided bits, and distribute the
stresses better than trying to clamp them into a two or four jawed brace.
Costs about five bucks. If you have a lot of these really tight screws to
back out, maybe a cheap impact driver (the type you smack with a mallet)
would be worth picking up? I've found breaking the screw's initial grip has
usually been the biggest problem, and the impact driver often does that much
more easily than lots of BF&I.

Gary:
You might think about making one of these bits out of an old auger bit. Cut
the spiral part off so that there are a couple of inches of shaft left.
Heat the end of the shaft and flatten it on an anvil or similar heavy piece
of steel, then grind it to a screwdriver shape. You might need to temper
your new bit.
