Re: Kingston, NY ??
Mike! I did burn your disc, and I posted a couple of pics. If they are
not your first choice for posting, I can take them down. But I spaced
your snail address... I think it drifted out of my shorts when I waded
out to my trailer on the "un" launching ramp. Could you email it to
me? My email ishelio6@...In case that is erased by the bb
program: helio6 "at" hotmail "dot" com. I'll send you the disc... 21MB
of shots... as soon as I have your address.
Thanks again for everything. Hope to see you soon. Rich.

Paul: As Garth pointed out, your weather report was accurate. We did
have a nice time... but are are probably wise to pick your choice of
five hour towings carefully. I brought my Oyster... an O'day 22... and
my daughter Clare and I did get in the water, and do some motoring,
and nice camping at the dock. But there was no actual sailing... if
you include wind in the sailing equation and not just "display of sails".
I almost brought my Elver, even though it is not a Bolger... but it
was closer than the O'day in being wood and homebuilt. But I've been
struggling to lower the keel of the O'day on the trailer for some fall
lake sailing, and it was ready... the Elver (Bivalve) was not.
I always re-discover just what nice people boat builders and thier
families tend to be. And everyone on the weekend proved this once
again. It was nice to meet everyone, some again, and thier families.
On Sunday Mike and Clare and I motored out to the River proper, and I
buzzed around him in our Oyster, with my Silver Century outboard
breaking the silence of a very still river. I got a few shots, and
posted a couple on the AS-29 images page. The interior shots are from
a week or so before, when I surprised Mike at home in his amazing boat.
I have to say that everytime I would read over the forums in the last
couple of years, and see "Kingston", I would get excited... then
remember it was Ontario and not NY, in my backyard. But Mike may have
seen to the possibility that there will be a get-together closer to
many of us, with amazing waters, views, good ramps, park and even a
pool! I hope I can see everyone there next year, if not sooner. Rich.

Unfortunately what is laughingly called "Real Life"
conspired to keep me in Albany. I'm very sorry that I
missed it.

ranging from 25+ to so little that we broke out the paddles. We got
such a late start that we didn't assume that anyone was still in
Kingston, so we sailed from Catskill instead, upstream from Dutchmen's
Landing to about Athens or so.
I clocked _Shrike_ at 5.3 knots upwind against the current, with 4 or
4.5 more likely, dropping as low as 2.5 in the holes -- the Hudson has
some seriously fluky wind. We didn't get a chance to do the downwind
speed run on the way back, as the wind started to go away when we
turned around, and we spent at least half the trip back just drifting
along in the current.

he does, I'll post a few.

Rich's on the water pics should be better.

Hi Paul --
We had to wait out a couple of squalls that blew through, but we had a
nice little messabout. Probably more talking than boating, but good
amounts of both. Wish you had been there.
Centerpiece of it was Mike Wagner's meticulously built and beautifully
outfitted AS-29. A real inspiration for all us landlubbers. You could
really live on that boat, and Mike plans to!
Then there was Steve Fisher and his stripbuilt Wee Lassie.
Unfortunately Steve came early on Saturday and we were late, so we
barely overlapped.
I brought Cormorant and our glass-bottomed Elegant Punt. But due to a
shallow ramp and tide considerations (and our need to return home
Sunday morning in time for two different kids' birthday parties) -- we
never launched Cormorant. But we had a nice row up the creek in the
punt, with kids on board gathering leaves from the stream.
My friend Wayne (who wants to build Chebacco) came with his perfectly
built pirogue, and a couple of my imperfectly built boats -- Mayfly
and Mouseboat, all on a flatbed trailer.
Sue Davis showed us her awesome Singlehanded Schooner, though the
winds were too light on Saturday and she didn't sail it. Last I heard
she was going to try on Sunday.
Rich SantaColoma brought his O'Day 22, and actually got it in the water.
After lots of boat-chat, boat-visiting, boat-ogling, boat-fondling,
and some actual afternoon boating, we had dinner (big batch of
jambalaya courtesy of Mike) and sat and talked and listened as Mike
played his guitar and darkness fell.
It was a great day. It's so pleasant to be among boat-folk, and
surrounded by boats. I guess that's what old Ratty was getting at in
his original "messing about" quote. I only wish we could've stayed
overnight and sailed on Sunday. Maybe Mike or Sue or Rich can fill us
in on how that all went.

Did anyone get to Kingston, NY this weekend? On Friday I printed maps
