Re: [bolger] Re: 40 Bay-Built boat

Whoops. Maynard Lowery is the boatbuilder. Malcolm
Lowry wrote "Under the Volcano" about the alchoholism
and death of an ex-pat living in Mexico. I had better
crack open another Corona. . . .
Anyway, this is a neat boat, with lots of touches you
only get with a home built or custom built boat--rail
at the stern folds down into a boarding ladder, Wiley
windows, just an neat old boat.

Thanks, Sam! The builder's name is actually Maynard Lowery, and
he's a very well-known traditional boatbuilder. Here's a link to
the musuem's website, with a photo:

I wanted to alert this group about a boat the
Richardson Maritime Museum in Cambridge, Maryland has
for sale. I went over and looked at it but concluded
it was too much boat for me. The boat is a bay-built
(cross planked chine hull) 40'x 12' x 3' built of the
finest materials 40 years ago on Tilgman Island by
Malcom Lowery. It had a good survey last year,
although it needs osme cosmetic work. The boat has
all electronics and is set up as a cruising boat, very
"troller-yatchesque". The boat has a 6 cyl Acadia
slow-turning gas engine in perfect condition, 2gph at
8kts, and is loaded with neat features. I have no
connection to the museum, I just like the boat and
would like to see someone get it and take care of it.
I suspect the boat will go cheap--the museum got it as
a donation and is very anxios to mve it. Sam
