Re: [boatdesign] luan ply?

luan ply with exterior glue around here. (North Florida) Home Depot
doesn't even carry it anymore. I'm open to leads.

Home Depot in Orange Park (next door to Jacksonville) has luan 1/4"
for $10.80 a sheet. It is marked EXTERIOR. They also have door skin
(I think it's 1/8"). Also, have you tried 84 Lumber?

Hope this helps,
Rich
I promised a report on my dealings with Fiberglass Coatings, Inc. in St
Pete, FL. (I'm in Panama City - FL Panhandle between Tallahassee and
Pensacola)

Last Thursday, I ordered a 5-gallon kit of 4 to 1 laminating epoxy ($165.50
for 5 - 1-gallon jugs, 4 resin/1 hardener) , some cloth and tape, and 50 lb
of talc ($19.50), UPS ground delivery..

It all arrived Wednesday, well packaged and complete. Shipping $44.00 (a
bit high but probably because of the talc), so I still saved about five
bucks on epoxy and a little more on tape/cloth/talc which is not available
locally in bulk.

I have used about a half gallon of the epoxy, and I find it much faster to
"kick" than the 4:1 Clear Cote I have been using. It has been in the high
80's here, and I find I can only mix 3 or 4 ounces and apply it before it
goes off - acts like it may be 5:1 activator. I have lost part of two
larger batches - just popped off suddenly. I'm using shallow plastic ice
cream tubs and working in the shade but it's just hot stuff. OTOH, the
Clear Cote seems to be slow to cure hard enough for sanding, so I'm willing
to keep going with the FCI stuff.

Overall, very satisfied with the telephone transaction and the materials.
