Re: [bolger] Re: [bolger6] Sabre(15' Diablo) at Port Sorell pictures

Yes, my brother is a bit of a speed demon! He likes punishing people, going at full-noise over the chop! By the way he was not quite right , 26.4 knots is actually a bit over 30mph, something like 30.36mph to be precise, given that 1 Nautical mile is approximately 15% faster(..or longer!) than 1 land mile!

I've reached a conclusion that I actually enjoy boating at slower speeds! After about an hour of zooming around at 30 mph, I've had enough.

If Bolger ever finishes the "Silver Blaze" torpedo runabout plans that he's doing for me, she'll have to be able to do more than 40knots as any speed over about 15 knots is too fast for any longtime enjoyment!!? What I mean by this is that, your just going too fast to enjoy the scenery. The design(Silver Blaze) will only have limited use, just for the occassional time when a few thrills and excitement are needed, that's why we're building the Lobsterboat, far more practical and usable! As my father said , unless she can do over 40 knots, there's not much point, and he's used to doing 6.5 knots(Maximum) in "Merlin" !

I do hope I'll hear from Bolger about the "Silver Blaze" design, its about 3 years since I commissioned him to do the design and I've had no correspondance for over a year now, so I don't know how things are going.....if at all!!

By the way, I'm actually quite taken with Bolger's design for the 39' x 8', 12 knot Diesel Launch!...Design # 379 I think?Has any one got any more info/pictures of this design apart from what's in the files section of Bolger Cartoons?(I think, that's where the profile plan is!?)

In case my brother has not replied Sabre's engine is a 25 hp Mercury 2 stroke bought new when the boat was built. Have finally got a hand-held GPS and max speed with two 85kg adults plus other gear fuel anchor etc was 26.4 knots (almost 30mph) with some tide going our way! Will do some runs with one person as from past experience she feels lighter and somewhat faster when I have been on my own. I would say do not put anything less than 25hp on this hull unless you have a weak heart and any form of excitement might kill you. After the Gps test both Hugo and I agreed that it would be fun to see what a 40hp would do.

Nice Diablo! And good timing, too, as the photos provide additional
motivation during the dreaded coating and sanding phase of my Diablo
project.

What size motor are you using?

Hi,

I've just posted a few pictures of "Sabre", our 15' Diablo Outboard
Skiff in the files section of Bolger6. These were taken last Saturday.

The folder is called "Sabre at Port Sorell" or something very similar!
