Instant boat construction suggestion
I just did a mid-winter evaluation of my 20 year old Diablo that is
constructed of 1/4' AC ply covered in dynel set in epoxy.
There is delamination and rot at the gunwales just fore of the butt
straps on both the port and starboard sides. Looks like a
commissioning project (or tell the chief financial officer that we
need a brand new work skiff). This was caused by water seeping into
the seam between where the fiberglass ends and the guwales begin as I
glassed after the installation of the gunwales.
To avoid this on my next project (hopefully a Birdwatcher II) I will
now remember to glass, then install the rub railes and gunwales. File
this under "live and learn". Hope someone can benefit from this.
