Re: [bolger] Re: Bunny R Lobsterboat. More Pics. Stern tube fitted
Hi Peter,
The hull will not be fibreglass sheathed, as far as I know at the moment, though it would be a good idea, but the effort involved turning the hull upsidedown to do a good job of it would be a fairly major effort. She will be epoxy saturated though, and epoxied based primer coat, then at least 2 undercoats and 3 top coats of paint. The white you see on the skeg is acutally epoxy paint. The metal shoe is stainless steel. And yes its a bad job removing the excess glue, its gettting worse, the further aft, as the hull flattens out considerably. At the stern she's dead flat-bottomed! The transom sits just level with the water, so at hull speed she'll make very little wake....just like Merlin Does! Apparently Bolger says the Lobsterboat should do about 10-11 Knots maximum, but cruises along nicely at 8-8.5 knots. Merlin's top speed,(Going by hand-held GPS) is approximately 6.5 Knots....as Bolger stated it would be!

upside down sanding that will have to be done, while laying in the

Nevertheless, very nice clean install of the stern tube!
Is your Dad planning on glassing the outside of the hull, including
the deadwood,or just sealing the works with clear epoxy prior to
painting?
Also,is that just white paint or is your Dad using some type of
nylon/plastic for the lower rudder bearing? I like the steel
(stainless?) shoe for the bottom of the skeg..great idea! Should
make for less worrisome bottom contacts :-)
Thanks for the grand,as usual, pictures Hugo and continued success to
your Dad.Hopefully he will coral some younger help to sand off the
glue runs on the hull....maybe even you :-)
Sincerely,
Peter Lenihan, wishing I had a nice cold beer to sooth my sore arms
from all that sand.....hey! wait! .....what am I talkin' about!?
It's a cool -16C with the winds outside and I ain't done no sanding!
WAITER! A large red port,toute de suite,s.v.p.!
