Re: Confused about Paint

I have used both oil based and latex paints on boats. What I have found is that the latex is
easier to apply and clean up but does not give you as hard or pretty of a finish. They both
will hold up well for a long time. If you want a shinny yacht type finish then use oil base
or polyurethane. If you aren't picky and hate to paint then use latex. As I said latex is
easier but is soft and will collect dirt and show brush marks. I usually go for latex because
I hate to sand and paint.

I rcomend RUSTOLIUM Topside paint for the outside .
I know what the label says but there was a guy last year at the duckworks messabout.
(Hey guy if you are reading forgive me for I have forgotten your name)
Anyhow he built probably the most beautiful boat with steam bent and laminated woods.
Beautiful!
I believe it was called the WEE LASS.
He epoxied the bottom and painted it with topside.
If he trusted it on his boat I sure would trust it on mine!
I suggest the varnish RUSTOLIUM makes as well.
I love their products and use them on all projects.
If they made underware I would wear them.
Thanks

My boat is covered with fiferglass and polyster resin. I was planning
on using an oil based exterior porch and deck paint. I tried a sample
of it and found it to be failry hard and it settled out to a VERY nice
finish after brushing it on. SO...... what do you guys recommend, Oil

alocal guy suggested, shellac????

I appreciate any help!!

My boat is covered with fiferglass and polyster resin. I was planning
on using an oil based exterior porch and deck paint. I tried a sample
of it and found it to be failry hard and it settled out to a VERY nice
finish after brushing it on. SO...... what do you guys recommend, Oil
based or acrylic enamel??? Also, What should I sela the interior
with before painting? Iwas going to use thinned polyester resin, but
