Graeme and Nels,
First, I would love to hear from Andrew concerning his Long Micro. I
have tried in the past, via google, to find a new email address or
other mention of where he is and how he is doing. It's a shame his
website is no longer on the web. It was inspirational and I've copied
a number of his innovations. If you can flush him out of hiding
(sailing?) I am sure the group would love to hear from him.

Second, (Nels) you took the words out of my keyboard. Most people
document the build but then disappear as if whisked to some sailing
Valhalla. Are they happy? Is their Bolger boat what they expected? Or
are the caught in irons, swearing profusely as they wrestle with to
boom as the main sheet sneaks around their ankle? I've avoided all of
this by only periodically documenting my build process (:-)

Enuf said. If you can find him and convince him to post about his
experiences, I would be all ears.

Hi Graeme,

I seem to recall that he built or desgined furniture as a vocation.
So the Yennora connection may indeed be the most likely location and
also explain the fine finish and woodwork on the boat.

I also checked the membership list and found that he is still listed
but his postings were bouncing. Noticed that several other members who
once contributed a great deal to this forum were also bouncing.

So perhaps many of these folks just gave up and stopped posting,
thereby losing contact. This is extremly unfortunate as we all lose
the value of their experience once the boats were launched.

Over time, many of the boats which were photographed while under
construction have no follow up photos once launched.

Nels, and Sydney-sider Microphiles,

I too thought Andrew's LM website was cool. It's still in my
favourites even though it's been dead a while now. I vaguely recall
Andrew saying that about the time the boat was to be finished there
may be some issues with his site. I seem to recall him saying that
he would be moving, or the business would be moving or restructured -
sold or something. (Did anyone archive the site?)

"Pryer" would be a less common spelling than "Pryor" (Pryor = 9
initialed "A's" from 20 in total, Syd metro).

Is my recollection of Andrew being located in the Sydney metro area
correct? If so, perhaps fortune smiles.

A Sensis >*residential*< phone listing search for "Pryer" for New
South Wales Metropolitan returns merely 9 for "Pryer" ( out of what?
3-5mil?). For initial "A" there are only 2: "A & K" and "A R" at the
SAME address in a Sydney beach suburb ( there are 3 "A"s" for NSW
regional, some possibles eg Runaway Bay- yeh it's Q. listed too.
An "A J" in Tassie metro; "A M" in V metro; "A" in WA metro;)

The files picture of Andrew's LM on the trailer shows it outside the
place where it was constructed IIRC. Racks for timber etc. can be
seen through the background door. Above that background open door is
a commercial sign on which I can only make out clearly "RivaL
designs". A Sensis NSW Metro >*business*< search for "rival .."
returns 3, only one of which is a likely candidate: "Rival Furniture
Pty Ltd" in Yennora. "Rival Designs .." for all other metros and NSW
regional returns a blank (there is a Q. "rival plasterboards", &
V. "rival marine", both unliklies, but there is á "Rival Design" in
Seaford, V. metro).

A Yellow Pages all states search for the business name "rival .."
yields 17, of which there is the very likely: Rival Design Fy 1/ 21
Cumberland Drv Seaford VIC 3198 ph: (03) 9786 9908 Furniture--
W'salers & Mfrs, (adjacent to Port Phillip Bay, and not far from
Western Port Bay [nor recruitable family]). How about that along
with the "Pryer A M" listed for Ringwood East, Vic metro?

Now, either there's a problem with the Victorian location, or it's
my recollection. Yet... Frankston by the bay is kind of Sydney-ish
(Botany-ish). Maybe cold call? What's been the LM sailing
experience? Over to you.

cheers
Graeme

NB. the Andrew's Long Micro folder & files were created
by "dukepryer". I haven't sought "duke ..", thinking it unlikely,
and also a little lazy to go into all the resulting permutations and
combinations. However there would probably be few returns, so
shouldn't take long. Likewise for other search options.

Speaking of Long Micros - does anyone know what happened with Andrew
Pryor who built one down under? He had a wonderfully detailed
website about the construction and then it disappeared.

There are a few photos in the files, in the folder "Andrews Long
Micro". Some wonderful construction details including the
companionway hatch and the cockpit seats.

mention his shop!

Bill,
Thanks very much for the kind comments. I would sell significant
parts of my body to be able to build a Long Micro.

Nels and Greg, Thank-you for the kind comments. For those who have a
look at the gallery on my website, please note that the selection of
photos changes each time you click on a thumbnail i.e. there are more
photos there than you see when you open the gallery page.

I've never really paid much attention to my site, as I didn't think
anybody would be interested. I will try to get more photos in the line-
up.

In case you are interested, the Phil Bolger designs I have built, or
have been associated with the building of are: - "Sea Hawk Dory
Skiff", "Surf", "Nymph", "Teal", "Bee", "Harbinger", "Hope" (two
of), "Micro", "Payson Pirogue" (the taped-seam one featured in Boats
with an Open Mind), "Sharpshooter", and "Cartopper". All have been
built (by me or their owners) from plans which were purchased from
PCB, Harold Payson, or Elrow LaRowe. - I strongly believe that plans
should be paid for, and that royalties should be paid for subsequent
boats from an original plans purchase (as we did with the
second "Hope"). The quality of the information makes the plans an
absolute bargain for the price.

For those interested, Ross has built several Bolger designs, including
Bee, Hope, and Harbinger in addition to the Micro.

And other nice designs.

Thanks Greg and Ross and everyone else who assisted in getting those
photos on file. Some stunning shots and interesting perspectives as
well.

Great to see how well they sail with five people and even sitting in
the bow well:-)

Also great to see one pulled up casually on shore next to a power
boat. Shows how capable that design really is.

Hello All,

Have just posted some great pictures of two Micros in the Brisbane
area. One built by Ross Lillistone, of Bayside Wooden Boats and the
other a Micro in the Brisbane River which was referred to in an email
by Graeme some days ago on this site. (pictures also sent by Ross)

Great looking boats!

Thanks to Ross
