Two invitations...

For west coast (or very determined) members

This is to make sure everyone knows about our two gatherings of
small boats planned for Spring and Summer of 2006. AKA messabouts,
these will give small-boaters the chance to exchange experiences
with others while visiting some of the finest waters you'll find
anywhere. (No, that's not very humble, but it's true.)

The first of these events takes place May 27 to 29, at Montague
Harbour on Galiano Island, one of the Canadian Gulf Islands.
Montague Harbour is a provincial marine park with moorings,
anchorages and beaches to haul out on. It also offers access by car
ferry, sheltered or not-so-sheltered waters, camping or luxurious
bed & breakfast accommodations plus a handy pub with bus service
back to the park!

The second event happens July 7 to 10 at Sucia Island in the
American San Juan Islands. The whole of Sucia is a state park,
offering much that Montague does, except there is no car (or any
other) ferry, no bed & breakfasts and no pub. Unlike Montague, where
you can come boatless, you must have a boat, or know someone with a
boat, to reach the island.

Both events rely on the attendees to supply the program. You won't
find a recreation director to organize you, but you will find people
who are happy to talk about boats, to admire yours and show you
theirs. If the weather is good and we feel like it, we might sail to
another island just because we can. If you happen to be boatless
just now, we'll find a place for you.

The websites are due again for updating, as I've got some names and
pictures to post – send me yours before I do it, and save me some
work later!

PS before anyone asks, "small-boaters" refers to those who take to
the water in small boats, it does *not* mean boaters of small
stature – although those will be welcome too!

PPS We have not defined small boats – that's up to you!
