My father started with a ten hp 4 stroke Honda on his first Diablo. I
thought it went fine. He replaced it with a 15 hp I think, which he said was
much better. But he was using it as his primary form of transport to the
nearest road to his house, which is about 20 kilometers away.

Aha! I actually have tried this trick.
With a 9.9 2cycle Johnson, it will plane with two 180 lb men on board.
With a 9.9 4cycle Honda, it won't plane with two 180 lb men on board.
The boat still planes with the two cycle engine with 1 dad, two kids,
and a black lab.
Happy boating.

boat is. Form and function for every square inch"

Jon, I have tested Diablo (a heavy one, with bottoms and frames of 18mm
instead of 10mm) with an old Honda B100L 10 hp 4t, you can see some photos:

The motor I'm planning to use on my FastBrick is a 9.9 hp high-thrust 4-
stroke. These are pretty expensive. PCB calls for up to 25 hp on
Diablo, but I'd like to try using the 9.9 on that hull first, and avoid
buying another expensive motor just to go fishing. I could also go
fishing in FastBrick, but I wasn't planning to build or buy a trailer
for it, since it's supposed to be the tender for our eventual cruiser.
Has anyone tried lower power motors on Diablo? If so, how did it work
for you?
