[bolger] Polyurethane Glue News Composite panels

Happened upon the US forest Service's web site. they had a fairly new
Acrobat file about their testings of four "consumer" 1 part polyurethane
glues. the glue makers are not disclosed, but i'll bet PL Polyurethane that
you can buy at Home Depot was tested.

Results were very interesting. When dry, poly is stronger than Rescorcinol.
However, it fails the "boil, cyclic loading test" which I think is the same
reason Weldwood isn't considered exterior glue. Still don't understand the
boiling. See if you can read it; The gobbledygook was almost unreadable.

No boatbuilding lately. Had to get the baby baptised this weekend and was
overrun with in-laws from colder climes.

BTW, anyone really interested in using composites like klegecell, dvinycell,
balsa etc should talk to the fiberglass coatings folks. when I was there
buying my epoxy I noticed they had all kinds of closed cell foams, including
one that was scored into little blocks to conform to curves. This stuff
mostly costs what marine plywood does, but is supposed to be lighter and
sometimes stronger. Get them athttp://www.fgci.com
