Topaz update

It might sound trivial, but a milestone has been achieved. I just finished
the upholstering for the settees and back. I purchased a used 6" thick
foam mattress to make the settees out of and did what I consider a passable
job of covering. The backs deviated from plans as they are of the same
material with traditional tufted padding and slanted to make seating very
comfortable. The back is removable to widen the seat for good sleeping,
only for myself as I am bigger than my wife.
At this point I am slowed down while fairing the cockpits and the large
composite top. This to is a deviation from plan and requires a lot more
labor. I also am going to start on the BRASS railings soon, as I will be
making the bases and joins out of mahogany, which will off set the polished
brass. If one looks at the plans, you will see the rails going the length
of the boat. We are going to put rails only foreword and to the rear.
Even this much cost well over $200. My wife wanted the brass and so she
has the job of maintaining it.
Will send along pics to Chuck when I am get a little further along in the
project. Brad Raby
To those interested. I just got back into getting updates sent to
Duckworks mg. I just sent along three more pictures of the Topaz comming
out of it's winter home. The three show her being birthed from the barn
with two additional on the trailer. These are good overall views, both of
the boat and trailer. I have contacted my friend, Nan to come on over with
her digital camera and take a few here at the house with the new paint. At
this point, I have installed a few more windows and plan to launch it as
soon as the roof gets the final glass coat. This to work at my dock in
front of the house and off the dock. Much easier than using a ladder all
the time...,Brad
