Re: Scaled up Tennessee

First, I'd fax/write PB&F direct using the contact info below and
ask their advice for a design.

A diesel inboard is NOT easily adapted to an existing light outboard
design. A box keel such as suggested in a previous post works
nicely but must be well designed to work.

Non-Bolger boats that may work for you are in the Redwing series.

You'll have to piece together the broken link above.

I too have seen the Aussie versions of Tennessee; especially the srticle in
Wooden Boat. They seemed to have the inboard issue covered in that they
added the centerline "nacelle" and tapered the aft end to a point from
which the shaft exited. Quite neat in that the shaft was almost certainly
parrallel to the WL. While they used battary and electric motor, I'm sure
that the net weight of the propulsion would equate to some of the new light
weight diesels.

Bolger uses something similar in the Alaskan cargo vessel as well as the
Diesel launch. Both can be studied on the Bolger Cartoon site.

Cheers,
Ed

Subject: [bolger] Scaled up Tennessee

I particularly like some of the Australian Tennessee builds. Trouble
is, the design is just a little too small and I want to use an inboard
diesel that weighs 550lbs.

What is the next size up from the Tennessee and would it adapt well to
an inboard?

Doug
