Hi All;
Leander wrote, and to which I agree, "The old saw about being half done
with a sailboat when you have the hull, looks about right to me."
When you fit the cabin with furnishings, even though Spartan, and
then add a pilot house, it makes matters worse. It seems that every time
I think I'm making headway, another "improvement" comes along to further
delay the launch date. I hope whom ever said, "it's the journey, not the
destination that is important" was right.
My most recent modification/ improvement is the hatch for the
Birdwatcher type top on the pilot house. I have had an ongoing problem
as to where to store it when not in use. As big as the micro is, storage
space is at a premium. Well, a few days ago the answer came!
Since I had already planed an arch over the rear of the top, to mount
lights and VHF antenna, I decided to build the hatch as a pop top. It
will be mounted on four lever arms, and when not in use it will rock up
and back and latch to the underside of the arch. This will give a six
foot six inch head room under it in the raised position. A secondary
benefit by this change is now I can mount my 13 inch by 33 inch solar
cell on top of the hatch and it will work in the up or down position.
Now, all that remains to be done is; the fiber glassing of the pilot
house, mounting the windows, fiber glassing the cockpit, building and
installing the stern wheel, installing the motor, installing the rudders
and steering, painting everything, and installing the whole electrical
system, with lights, two batteries, VHF, GPS, CB, Computer set up, TV,
and sound system with CD.
Oh yes, I almost forgot, install the fresh water, and solar hot water
plumbing.
A spring launch? Gee, I don't think so. ;-)
Stan, of the Stern Wheeler, Micro Tugger, Snow Goose.
