Re: WDJ fine tuning

Bill, I have uploaded a drawing to the vault (Folder WDJ) of how I
imagine the Outhaul. It is a copy from Marino's "Sailmaker's
Apprentice". I will send one to your personal email-adress too.

am new to list
not sure how to post a request for help
need help w/dovekie conversion
dovekie available via insurance sale w/o any mast, boom, sail or rigging
would like to convert to a balanced lug
or something easy to set and reef for older man w/medical problems
have talked to several dovekie[former] owners in part of the world
they liked the dovekie concept as we have a lot of desirable but very shallow
bay sailing
owneres did not like the sprit rig and were afraid of the boat
all sold due to unpredicatable high winds we have
any and all help would be appreciated
the boat can be had for cheap
but can it be made to work for me???
do not have the expertise to know
please help
k
Bjorn, I think a vang is not needed for the main because (1) the much longer
boom discourages twist and (2) the main is usually sheeted in closer than
the foresail.
I have not yet rigged outhauls and I can see that the job would be
easier if the booms were a bit longer or the foots (feet?) of the sails a
bit shorter. I'll be interested in your solution.
I bought a heavy duty 4-part tackle to raise and lower my masts ( no
winches as per plan) and this tackle does double duty as the fore vang. I
think a 3-part tackle with 1/4 or 5/16ths inch line would suffice for the
vanging task alone.

>Bill,
>That is interesting. I have wondered if the lacking vang of the main boom
will have a negative effect. I hadn't thought of the possibility that the
weight of the boom will have a vanging effect. It will be interesting to see
if the weight of my hollow boom will be sufficient...
>I will most certainly try to add outhauls on the boom ends. I have allready
cut the boards. Are the booms long enough to give room for a strap, shackle
and a block on the end?

purchase?
