I have several photos in my files showing Old Shoe, Micro and Long
Micro pulled up ashore. If there is any slope to the beach - and you
pick your spot - the boat will stay nice and level.

I would consider carrying a couple of small jack stands to brace the
stern if I was sailing where the tides were considerable or the bottom
uneven. On a sloping beach with the boat parked parallel to the beach
you would only need one. It may be easier to level than a flat
bottomed boat in a sloping location.

Bolger does not like bilge keels even though he recognizes their
popularity in some areas of the world. He feels they create too much
drag, and are not easy to locate properly or to install. He therefor
prefers Bilge boards like on the AS29, or leeboards, like Marha Jane.
Either choice would be a needless complication on a Micro.

This question has already been addressed. This is where the mizzen is
a real advantage when holding the bow into the wind for reefing.

There is one for sale in the U.K. as we speak.

Phil Bolger has designed a Micro sail rig that is derivative of the
Chinese lugsail, which he thinks is an improvement.
It is kind of a hybrid between a gaff rig and a Chinese lug.

Not having sailed a Chinese lug, I cannot say, but I
have sailed the Bolger version, and indeed it works
as advertised. The best feature is that you can carry
a massive amount of sail, and then can easily
reef it quickly in a low stress operation, plus the
airfoil shape is more easily controlled than with a
Chinese lug.

Google "Bolger Micro Navigator"
also, here are a few pictures

There are some photos on my site-
http://oink.kiwiwebhost.biz/
refer to the Files section in the Bolger 6 Overflow group and the file
entitled "Pindimar Micro" to see a picture of a Micro dried out on
the sand.

Somewhere in the Bolger files there is a picture or two of a Micro
with a Chinese Lug Sail rig.

Reefing - refer to the Jim Michalak Web Site in the back issues of his
newsletter somewhere is an article on reefing the Micro type of rig.
In Bolger 7 there are also pictures of John Mann's Micro reefed down.

Hi, I have some questions about Micro. Apologies if these have been
answered before.

1)How does she take the ground? Does she rest flat, or heeled over to
one side? If not flat, could you use legs, or twin keels?
2)How do you reef her sails?
3)Could she have a junk rig (Chinese lugsail)?

Thanks,
