Re: Micro cockpit

Bob,
I know of three people who have built self bailing cockpits for their
Long Micros. Dan Gonneau (http://www.znw.com/homepage/zephyr_faq.htm);
Andrew Pryor (from Australia, but his website is now gone); and me,
(http://personal.bgsu.edu/~kingw/Long_Micro/).

I corresponded with Dan a bit about his self bailing design, and I
tried to incorporate some improvements based on his experience. I
made my cockpit floor about 1 inch higher than his. I'm using two
holes (approx. 1.5 inches dia.) to drain water into the aft most,
free-flooding well. I also build two scuppers/self-bailers (from
fiberglass) which will drain water from the bottom of the aft-most,
free-flooding well. Hopefully. Finally, I sealed my rudder shaft in,
to make it water tight (I used a piece of PVC electrical conduit for
this). Again, we'll see how that all works.

Does anybody have any info (drawings, description, etc.) of building
Micro with a more "mainstream" footwell cockpit?

I seem to remember hearing about someone who built one this way, but
couldn't find anything about it.

Thanks!
