shear,un-ending,sunblind madness,say some!
Greetings Bolgerados!
I'm back from a near 4 week vacation and what a time it was.Of
course, anything that can keep me away from the nuthouse for a
stretch just has to be good :-)
During this time off, I dived into Windermere work with a
passion.Yessirree! Long days fussing away over finish details and
short nights pondering the next days tasks. Shame no one has
invented a super strong,totally water-proof and totally affordable 5
minute epoxy. What a difference that would make for
building/assembling many small bits!
Presently, the interior is all primed and the aft stateroom
painted.Missing are the various bits of mahogany interior trim
moldings which I hope to have cut, shaped and installed in the coming
week. The last "big part" is the head and galley areas which have to
be finished up from their roughed in shapes. The final inside job
will be the laying of the mahogany sole but this will, perforce,be
saved for near the end when I know I will not have any more interior
work left to do.
Today, marked the beginning of that long slippery slope to
insanity heralded by the filling and plugging of literally hundreds
upon hundreds of screw holes in the hull sides with epoxy
and....yup,you guessed it....toothpicks. Oddly,these empty screw
holes are the only remaining bits of evidence pointing to the
winters worth of work installing all the fastening frames and 2 inch
blue Styrofoam panels throughout the interior. Ah yes,the
interior, all beautifully clad with painted mahogany veneers and
wainscotting to cover and protect the blue styrofoam from the
nervous clutching fingernails of terrified guests and otherwise a
Godawful eye-sore.She is beginning to adopt all the aires of a
proper yacht, I tells ya :-) I can only hope that the exterior will
come out as good but this will have to wait a bit as I estimate
there to be at least several hundred more screw holes to fill and
plug yet :-(
My vacation could not have gotten off to a better start
either, with a most pleasent visit from fellow Bolgerado Paul
McLellan,of houseboat HAPPY ADVENTURE fame, who dropped in with his
buddy Mike. His gracious compliments were much appreciated and I took
full advantage of his visit to do some wine sampling....thanks
Paul!!!
Shortly thereafter,along came Paul Simard,Champlain builder,chef
and furniture maker. It was good to see him again after a long
winter. The Verchere Gang await eagerly our next assignment in
helping him get his side panels all up and aligned!
Little was I to know that such a happy vacation debut would soon
be joined by a happy vacation exit with Jean Gauthier and Gaby,of Le
Cabotin(AS-39) fame, coming by for a day long visit and the rapid
evaporation of a few cases of......well you know.....liquid gold!
They came bearing the great good news that they expect to launch
sometime near the end of June and will be towing their boat to the
boat yard for final rigging intalls.YIPPEE!!!! Also, I have been
invited along for the first few days to help Jean figure out the
works of the rig and to explore some choice sailing spots out on my
favorite stretch of the St.Lawrence. I'm blessed with fun times!!!
I know that right about now would be a good time to provide a
link to some pictures but alas, this will have to wait as the film is
not yet finished.
Gotta run,fun is calling, but will have pictures by next week(I
hope!)
Happy summer, happy building, happy dreams everyone!
Sincerely,
Peter,"le bum",Lenihan.....from along the rain soaked and much loved
dirty St.Lawrence dreaming of sunny days and boating on board
Windermere..............
